Softball's Mariah Foltz Named to All-State Team

2017 Jun 19

Eastern Mennonite University's Mariah Foltz was named All-State by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Third baseman Mariah Foltz (Broadway, Va./Broadway) was voted to the All-State First Team for the second straight year. She batted .342 with 22 RBIs for the Royals this spring, finishing second on the team with 31 runs and tied for second with 41 hits, 14 walks and 10 doubles. Playing at the hot corner, Foltz was seventh in the ODAC with 78 assists. The senior is a three-time All-ODAC honoree, and leaves EMU with 39 doubles, one shy of the program record. One of the best all-around players in Royals history, Foltz hit .347 for her career, adding 108 runs, 103 RBIs and 336 assists. In four years, she drew 35 walks against just 17 strikeouts.

Despite having six freshmen among the starting ten players, Eastern Mennonite opened the 2017 softball season with a program-record 12-game winning streak. The Royals finished 22-16, including 9-11 in the ODAC.

VaSID names 27 All-State teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
