Softball's Savannah Jones Named to All-State Team

2017 Jun 19

Eastern Mennonite University's Savannah Jones was named All-State by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Freshman Savannah Jones (Stanley, Va./Page County) started her EMU career with a spot on the VaSID All-State Second Team. She came to EMU as an infielder, but quickly took over in right field, where she earned All-ODAC honors this spring and now All-State honors. Jones led the women with a .398 batting average and was top-11 in the ODAC with both a .475 on-base percentage and .563 slugging percentage. She was tied with Foltz with 41 hits and 14 walks and just one behind her with nine doubles.

Despite having six freshmen among the starting ten players, Eastern Mennonite opened the 2017 softball season with a program-record 12-game winning streak. The Royals finished 22-16, including 9-11 in the ODAC.

VaSID names 27 All-State teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
