William Ragland Earns All-Academic Status

2017 Jun 9

Junior William Ragland of North Chesterfield (23236), VA, was named to the Continental Volleyball Conference All-Academic Team.

For the third straight year, Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) put seven men's volleyball team members on the Conference All-Academic Team. The total is also tied for the most in program history.

EMU had the third-most honorees of the eight teams in the CVC this year. More than half of the Royals on the roster were named All-Academic, with seven of the 13 making the cut.

Four juniors were on the team, all repeats: Tim Callahan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Colton Frey (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Dan Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and William Ragland (North Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale). Sophomores R.J. Ocampo (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) and Christian Taylor (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) were also repeats, with classmate Austin Tomlin (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) making his first appearance after joining the volleyball team this year..

EMU only graduates one senior, Scott Brigham (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry), from a team which tied the program record for wins at 22-11 and lost 3-2 in the CVC Championship match.

A total of 50 student-athletes were recognized as members of the Continental Volleyball Conference All-Academic Team for the 2017 season, the second-highest total in the league's six-year history. In order for a player to earn All-Academic Team honors he must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average.
