Eastern Mennonite Seminary graduates 22 to many callings
Eastern Mennonite Seminary conferred 18 degrees and four graduate certificates at Eastern Mennonite University's 100th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 6. Among them were four graduates of the MA in Christian Leadership, a new degree program that balances spiritual growth, leadership training, and individualized integration of coursework that best fits the student's intended ministry setting. The seminary baccalaureate and commissioning was Friday, May 4, in Martin Chapel.

Graduation from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University
A total of 29 degrees were conferred on May 6, 2018, from Eastern Mennonite University's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. Graduates came from nine states and the District of Columbia, as well as 12 countries: Spain, Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, Sudan, South Africa, New Zealand, Colombia, Taiwan, Tanzania, Brazil, Iran and Kenya.

Six EMU student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-State Team by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). A total of 217 student-athletes representing 34 colleges and universities in the state were recognized.

Angela Baylor awarded Bland Literacy Scholarship
After 28 years in the classroom, Angela Baylor is readying herself for new challenges as a reading specialist. A graduate student in the MA in Education program at Eastern Mennonite University, she now has some financial help to make her dream come true: She is the 2017 recipient of the Linda Heatwole Bland Literacy Scholarship.

Eastern Mennonite University has 92 men and women named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. The total is 10 more than EMU earned last year and is one of the highest numbers in program history.

Commitment to service and achievement with Kappa Alpha Psi
Three students at Eastern Mennonite University, seniors Azariah Cox and Kennedy Okerere and junior Clinton Ugboaja, have become members of Kappa Alpha Psi, the third oldest of the "Divine Nine" black fraternities and sororities in the United States, and have made university history with the founding of the first black fraternity at a Mennonite college.

First biomedicine graduate to attend veterinary school
Sanjay Dick graduates from Eastern Mennonite University's MA in Biomedicine program April 30, and will be the first in the program to attend veterinary school, rather than a professional study program in human medicine. The Lancaster, Pa. native has been accepted into Virginia Tech's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Thirteen graduates of Eastern Mennonite Seminary received blessings, degrees and certificates during the 2017 seminary commencement. They were also accompanied by the observation, offered by associate dean Nancy Heisey, that "today marks the end of the world as you know it."
