One hundred and five Eastern Mennonite University students have been named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, setting a new record of honorees forEMU. A student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the year to be considered for an ODAC All-Academic Award. All 16 of EMU's ODAC-sponsored sports were represented on the All-Academic Team.

After a year of planning, the International Student Organization (ISO) held their fifth annual ISO Gala April 14. The event served $5,628.65 to support women who are victims of sexual assault in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Eastern Mennonite University senior Connor Faint (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) finished his career in style, breaking an ODAC record and earning his second straight All-America honor when he crossed third in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Eight alumni educators, including Rockingham County's Teacher of the Year, were recognized for professional excellence for local Teachers of the Year.

Seniors Dan Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) were awarded the President's Awards, the highest athletic award presented by Eastern Mennonite University.

Eastern Mennonite Seminary conferred 18 degrees and four graduate certificates at Eastern Mennonite University's 100th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 6. Among them were four graduates of the MA in Christian Leadership, a new degree program that balances spiritual growth, leadership training, and individualized integration of coursework that best fits the student's intended ministry setting. The seminary baccalaureate and commissioning was Friday, May 4, in Martin Chapel.

A semester at the Washington Community Scholars' Center provides opportunity for professional internships in a variety of settings where students make positive contributions to the community and gain vocational direction. Students also get to experience city life, explore Washington's cultural and historic attractions, learn about urban issues such as gentrification, and manage a house budget and relationships in the communal living environment of the Nelson Good House.

A total of 29 degrees were conferred on May 6, 2018, from Eastern Mennonite University's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. Graduates came from nine states and the District of Columbia, as well as 12 countries: Spain, Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, Sudan, South Africa, New Zealand, Colombia, Taiwan, Tanzania, Brazil, Iran and Kenya.

Second-year master's degree candidates in the conflict transformation and restorative justiceprograms at Eastern Mennonite University's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding are required to fulfill a practicum or research project.

Eastern Mennonite University is pleased to recognize students who were named to the Spring 2018 Dean's List. The Dean's List, compiled at the end of each term, includes degree-seeking students who achieve a semester GPA of at least 3.75 with no withdrawn, incomplete, or failing grades for 12 semester hours of standard grades.

More than 130 students were honored during Eastern Mennonite University's spring recognition chapel for leadership and contribution to the community in athletics and academics, student government, residence life, campus ministries and more.

EMU Royals' Damon Frazier (Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial) was voted to the utility spot on the All-ODAC First Team, repeating his honor from last spring. He is also the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. Freshman Brett Lindsay(Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) took All-ODAC Second Team at third base.

Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, conferred 540 degrees at its 100th Commencement Ceremony on May 6, 2018. Commencement speaker, alumna and Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee MA '07, received an honorary doctorate.

Corey Willis (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax), Daniel Scott (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) and Brett Lindsay (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) have been named Co-Royals Athlete of the Week.

Three EMU softball women have earned spots on the All-ODAC Team. Juniors Sydney Reath (Williamsburg, Va./Mercersburg Academy) and Tiffani Shaheen(Fluvanna, Va./Fluvanna County) earned spots on the All-State Second Team, while Kelsi Martin (Buena Vista, Va./Parry McCluer) earns an All-ODAC Third Team honor in her first campaign.

Three students from EMU Lancaster's RN-BS in Nursing program were selected to present their research at the annual Wellspan Health Collaborative Evidence-Based Practice and Nursing Research Conference April 19, 2018, in York, Pa.

Alexa Weeks, senior education major at Eastern Mennonite University, reflects on her student-teaching experience. After graduation, Weeks has accepted a third grade lead teaching position at Smithland Elementary School in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Thirty-three seniors and graduate students participated in Wednesday's Donning of the Kente ceremony at Eastern Mennonite University. Each graduate received a special stole of their choice, symbolizing their heritage and roots, to wear at the May 6 Commencement ceremony. The wearing of stoles is a special tradition at EMU and the formal presentation of these stoles celebrates the accomplishments of graduating students of color as well as the history of black students' and students of color achievements at the university.

Eastern Mennonite Seminary students present Master of Divinity (MDiv) capstone projects that touch on both the personal formation experienced within the students' seminary journeys, and the transformation they hope to bring about as leaders in ministry. The capstone requirement helps seminarians synthesize and integrate into their unique ministry setting the four guiding curricular principles that have formed the rich foundation of their learning: wise interpretation, mature practice, discerning communication and transformational leadership.

The pre-professional health sciences practicum is a required course that places students in settings that match their career interests. Students gain insights into the realities of work life in health care professions.

Four EMU men's volleyball team players were named to the All-Continental Volleyball Conference teams. Additionally, senior Micah Buller (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) claimed a major award as the CVC's Libero of the Year. Buller was joined on the All-CVC Second Team by teammates Dan Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim), William Ragland (North Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale) and Christian Taylor (Richmond, Va./Deep Run). Eastern Mennonite had the most honorees of any team in the CVC this year, topping three each from Kean and Marymount, the respective regular season champions from each of the conference's two divisions.

Volunteers from Earth Keepers, an environmental organization at Eastern Mennonite University, helped with the annual Blacks Run Clean-Up Day.

Eastern Mennonite University students won the annual Kryptos cryptoanalysis competition hosted since 2011 by the mathematics department at Central Washington University in Ellensburg and sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Section of the Mathematical Association of America. Only four teams solved all three puzzles within the five-day contest window, with EMU's winning trio submitting correct answers first and in less than 20 hours.

Grant Amoateng (Bristow, Va./Patriot) was named the ODAC Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year.
