EMU breaks record for ODAC All-Academic Team honorees

One hundred and five Eastern Mennonite University students have been named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, setting a new record of honorees forEMU. A student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the year to be considered for an ODAC All-Academic Award. All 16 of EMU's ODAC-sponsored sports were represented on the All-Academic Team.

Washington Community Scholars' Center Summer Term

A semester at the Washington Community Scholars' Center provides opportunity for professional internships in a variety of settings where students make positive contributions to the community and gain vocational direction. Students also get to experience city life, explore Washington's cultural and historic attractions, learn about urban issues such as gentrification, and manage a house budget and relationships in the communal living environment of the Nelson Good House.

Eastern Mennonite Seminary graduates 22 to many callings

Eastern Mennonite Seminary conferred 18 degrees and four graduate certificates at Eastern Mennonite University's 100th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 6. Among them were four graduates of the MA in Christian Leadership, a new degree program that balances spiritual growth, leadership training, and individualized integration of coursework that best fits the student's intended ministry setting. The seminary baccalaureate and commissioning was Friday, May 4, in Martin Chapel.

Graduation from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University

A total of 29 degrees were conferred on May 6, 2018, from Eastern Mennonite University's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. Graduates came from nine states and the District of Columbia, as well as 12 countries: Spain, Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, Sudan, South Africa, New Zealand, Colombia, Taiwan, Tanzania, Brazil, Iran and Kenya.

The Dean's List, compiled at the end of each term, includes degree-seeking students who achieve a semester GPA of at least 3.75 with no withdrawn, incomplete, or failing grades for 12 semester hours of standard grades.

Donning of the Kente ceremony kicks off EMU's 100th Commencement celebration

Thirty-three seniors and graduate students participated in Wednesday's Donning of the Kente ceremony at Eastern Mennonite University. Each graduate received a special stole of their choice, symbolizing their heritage and roots, to wear at the May 6 Commencement ceremony. The wearing of stoles is a special tradition at EMU and the formal presentation of these stoles celebrates the accomplishments of graduating students of color as well as the history of black students' and students of color achievements at the university.

Four volleyball players named to all-CVC team

Four EMU men's volleyball team players were named to the All-Continental Volleyball Conference teams. Additionally, senior Micah Buller (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) claimed a major award as the CVC's Libero of the Year. Buller was joined on the All-CVC Second Team by teammates Dan Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim), William Ragland (North Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale) and Christian Taylor (Richmond, Va./Deep Run). Eastern Mennonite had the most honorees of any team in the CVC this year, topping three each from Kean and Marymount, the respective regular season champions from each of the conference's two divisions.

EMU wins international cryptoanalysis competition

Eastern Mennonite University students won the annual Kryptos cryptoanalysis competition hosted since 2011 by the mathematics department at Central Washington University in Ellensburg and sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Section of the Mathematical Association of America. Only four teams solved all three puzzles within the five-day contest window, with EMU's winning trio submitting correct answers first and in less than 20 hours.
