The Dean's List, compiled at the end of each term, includes degree-seeking students who achieve a semester GPA of at least 3.75 with no withdrawn, incomplete, or failed grades for 12 semester hours of standard grades.

Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball player Chloe Roach (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) had an incredible opportunity this summer before gearing up for her second year with the Royals. Roach spent over a week in Brazil on the USA D-III basketball team representing her country, her sport, and her school.

Masters Degree Capstone

Nourah Alhasawi, a graduate student at Eastern Mennonite University's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, presented her capstone project, photography and interviews of non-Muslim women in various parts of the veiling process. The capstone fulfills requirements for the MA in conflict transformation. Alhasawi is a professor of Islamic Studies at Princess Nourah University in her home country of Saudi Arabia.

Internship

Cerrie Mendoza, a biology major from El Paso, Texas, is taking part in a collaboration pilot project between the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), the U. S. Geological Survey, Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) and James Madison University (JMU) to gather genetic samples from certain North American species of salamanders that were first collected and described 50 years ago. The project is funded by the Smithsonian's Global Genome Initiative.

Eastern Mennonite University's nursing program hosted a white coat ceremony for its new class of nursing students Sunday, Sept. 8, in Martin Chapel. Students participate in this ceremony at the beginning of their first semester in the clinical level of the nursing program.

Latino Student Alliance Leadership

Eastern Mennonite University's Latino Student Alliance hosted a Sept. 15 chapel to begin Latino Heritage Month. Guest speaker Don Clymer, an EMU language professor who has led several cross-cultural trips to Central and South America, shared on the theme of "Donde Caben Dos, Caben Tres," a common Hispanic saying which translates as "there is always room for one more."

Sophomore Daniel Obour (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week after spurring the Royals to two more wins, giving them a five-game winning streak.

Internship

Building on water quality research of three Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) professors, recent graduate Hannah Daley and senior Amanda Williams concluded a summer of data collection in the Bergton area watershed. With funding from the first EMU Summer Research Grant, the partners are investigating the relationship between canopy cover and stream water temperature in two headwater streams.

Cross Cultural Experience - Europe

Students explored 16th Century Radical Anabaptism in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany with a focus on the crosscurrents of gender and class that shaped the movement The cross-cultural trip was one of five offered this summer by Eastern Mennonite University, which has required some form of cross-cultural study for more than 30 years. Senior Tyler Denlinger (Perkasie, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy) has wrapped up his collegiate career with one more award, this time being named All-Academic by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

From the Atlantic to the Pacific: Summer bike ride both 'grueling' and 'exhilarating'

The trip began with the traditional dipping of back tires in the Atlantic Ocean at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. It ended 59 days later in the Pacific at Lincoln City, Oregon, after 3,492 miles across 14 states and through Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Goshen, Indiana; Yellowstone National Park, and Portland, Oregon.

Angela Baylor awarded Bland Literacy Scholarship

After 28 years in the classroom, Angela Baylor is readying herself for new challenges as a reading specialist. A graduate student in the MA in Education program at Eastern Mennonite University, she now has some financial help to make her dream come true: She is the 2017 recipient of the Linda Heatwole Bland Literacy Scholarship.

Washington Community Scholars' Center Internship

Thirteen students in Eastern Mennonite University's Washington Community Scholars' Center (WCSC) experienced on-the-job learning this summer. At the heart of the WCSC program are professional internships in a variety of settings where students make positive contributions to the community and gain vocational direction. But students also get to experience city life, explore Washington's cultural and historic attractions, learn about issues such as gentrification, and manage a house budget and relationships in the communal living environment of the Nelson Good House.

Denlinger named Academic All-American

Tyler Denlinger (Perkasie, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy) is wrapping up his collegiate career in style. EMU's track & field/cross country runner was named to the Academic All-America Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), becoming just the second-ever Eastern Mennonite male to be named one of the nation's top academics.

Commitment to service and achievement with Kappa Alpha Psi

Three students at Eastern Mennonite University, seniors Azariah Cox and Kennedy Okerere and junior Clinton Ugboaja, have become members of Kappa Alpha Psi, the third oldest of the "Divine Nine" black fraternities and sororities in the United States, and have made university history with the founding of the first black fraternity at a Mennonite college.

EMU men's volleyball setter Christian Taylor (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) is getting a once in a lifetime experience this month, representing his country and his sport in Brazil. Taylor is on the USA D-3 Volleyball Team, which is playing matches in different locations around the South American country over a 10-day period.

First biomedicine graduate to attend veterinary school

Sanjay Dick graduates from Eastern Mennonite University's MA in Biomedicine program April 30, and will be the first in the program to attend veterinary school, rather than a professional study program in human medicine. The Lancaster, Pa. native has been accepted into Virginia Tech's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program in Blacksburg, Virginia.

President's Award Recipient

Eastern Mennonite University held its Athletic Honors Banquet on April 20 in a time of reflection and honoring the journeys of the Royals' student-athletes. Seniors Tyler Denlinger (Perkasie, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy) and Becca Hardy (Port Republic, Va./Eastern Mennonite) won the President's Awards, the highest athletic award given out by EMU.
